A lovely review

The following review was featured in Singles by Simone in Beat Magazine today. It made us happy.

The latest single from Melbourne’s Elephant Eyes is a blissfully warm folk pop number filled with spooling piano notes and a teasing vocal performance from singer Kate McMahon. Tripping lightly up and down the scale, turning unexpectedly smoky and billowing out to a wail in the final chorus, her voice is full of confidence and character.

‘What single?’ you may ask. Why, just scroll down a bit.

New Elephant Eyes single – Mother Said

Hells yeah! Our new single is now ready for your tiny little ears. Of course, the older you get, the tinier your ears are not, so we’re assuming here that you’re all full of the vibrance of youth. Whatever. Just listen to the song.

‘Wake Up’ – the unofficial video

Yesterday Kate had a burst of activity and made a ‘rustic’ music video for ‘Wake Up’. Made in eight hours using nothing but a music notation pad, a sharpie, a camera and a cigarette lighter. Enjoy.

Ramblings from our newsletter

Every so often, completely randomly and with no regularity whatsoever, Elephant Eyes sends out a newsletter. If you’d like to witness irregular ramblings you sign up over there —>

Here are the ramblings from the most recent one. Some people have reported that it made them laugh, so we thought we’d share it here.

Hi y’all. It’s Kate here. I’m sitting in Joe’s Garage in Fitzroy (not the best coffee, but has free wifi) and simultaneously listen to the latest edit of recording efforts and typing this letter. Also, Crowded House is being blasted through the cafe, so I’m a little musically confused, but I love the bit in our song when Neil Finn joins in with a slightly ill-fitting harmony. That’s the best bit.

Anywho, so yeah, we’ve been recording again. We spent last weekend at Squid Studios getting all the parts down for our soon-to-be-release single, Mother Said. We think it’s a good song. You’ll get to decide for yourself soon enough. It’s really, really, really fun recording. As a band, it’s right up there with epic 3-hour jams and meeting Leonard Cohen. I’ve never met Leonard Cohen.

We’re gonna be having a big party to celebrate the release of this new single. We’re stoked to be playing at the Grace Darling Hotel – the classiest place to let us in their doors – and to be playing with Owls of the Swamp (just back from a year-long stint in Berlin) and Siobhan (about to release her debut album). We’d love it if you could come along to the party. We’re selling tickets online now here, and all online tickets come with a free sampler CD featuring all three bands.

Anyway, sorry for rambling about the launch for a bit. It’s pretty much all I can think of at the moment. I hope you are enjoying a coffee that is better than the ones at Joe’s Garage and that you have an awesome weekend.

Love,
Kate E.E.
